Creating my first site; a reference tool which tracks the price of crypto funds against their underlying crypto assets.
Crypto funds are private companies that simply hold crypto as assets. Since they are floated on the stock market, investors can buy their shares. The main purpose of buying shares in crypto funds over buying the actual crypto itself, is that you can use tax free saving accounts such as Canada's TFSA to buy the shares. However, currently you cannot buy crypto assets such as bitcoin and keep it in a TFSA.
Users of the site will be able to track the price premium, allowing them to make more informed decisions on when to buy or sell. The price premium is the percentage difference between the value of the share and the value of underlying asset. For example, say if company X owned 100 bitcoin. And you bought a 1% share for $12,000. If the price of bitcoin was $10,000, then the price premium would be 20%.
Eventually, users can enter their Canadian RRSP or TFSA details. Specifically their contribution limits, as Canadian's can only contribute a certain amount of dollar asset's each year. This can provide more information on their profits through avoiding capital gains taxes.
I hope to keep you in the loop on how this project is coming along. If you have any insights or even some corrective suggestions, please feel free to reach out.
Thanks, Niall Harrington
